Milford's Manor House in Danger ~ Part 2

Since the hospital's closure in 1987 the grounds have been in various hands and suffered in various ways, e.g. much of the timber (rare specimens bought by McCrum) was sold off and wrought iron railings, pumps and lampposts have disappeared.

A ray of hope for the house appeared in 1996 when Armagh District Council purchased the premises for £250,000. However with no clear plans for the house and no maintenance, the place quickly deteriorated. Official incompetence led to all the Victorian marble fireplaces (see next page) and other fixtures being removed for "safe keeping". These items were stored in Armagh prison after it's closure, another peculiar acquisition of the council's. Mr. McCrum's fireplaces didn't stay long in the old jail for as soon as they were ensconced in their new secure repository they were promptly stolen.
