Mall restoration ~ The Mall Walks 2

As can be seen from the photos the integrity of the Mall walks are being undermined by the addition of a harsh granite kerb. The kerbing is a totally new feature to the mall and as local mellow limestone was used in the construction of the wall and formerly the surface of the White Walk, it is a material foreign to the mall.

The surface might weather down and eventually blend with the older features but what will never conform is the insane loops, curves and twists that encircle the tree trunks. The basic symmetry and order that is at the heart of the Mall and its walks is destroyed by this random border. The area between the wall and kerb will be planted with grass emphasizing further the crazy swirling border instead of the regular line of the Mall wall.
