The District Council have successfully applied to the Heritage Lottery Fund for money to enable them to make much needed repairs and improvements to the Mall.

Originally the Town Common, the Mall was enclosed and landscaped at the end of the eighteenth century. Since then it has become a popular and fashionable park. Because of its position, its tree lined walks and the large number of important buildings of architectural merit that surround the Mall, it is probably one of the most important areas of urban parkland in Ireland.

The work which began in March 2003 is much needed and long overdue, if we at Armagh Info' didn't know better we would say the council have been deliberately neglecting the Mall in the hope that someone would throw a huge grant their direction. The Lottery money amounts to almost £1,000,000 so there is plenty of funds to make real improvements to our town park.
