The railings and gates at the south end of the mall are fine examples of late eighteenth century local craftsmanship. Other examples of wrought iron grille-work were once fairly common around Armagh but the mall gates are one of the few left.


The superb gates that used to front Richhill castle just a few miles from Armagh perhaps represent the zenith of this art. Although no longer at Richhill they feature frequently on television for they were removed in controversial circumstances in the 20's and re-erected at Hillsborough house the official Royal residence in Northern Ireland. more>>
