Lennox's Jan 1998

One of Armagh's oldest shops and landmarks, Lennox's department store closed its doors a few years ago after over 100 years of trading. The block of buildings in Market Street has lain vacant and unmaintained since then. Although not of any architectural importance the buildings are some of the very few in the city centre that can boast a respectable age.

In the weeks before Christmas 2003 the demolition of the buildings has taken place and there is now (27/12/03) very little left except a heap of rubble. Unlike Green's barbers shop and Ogle Street this is not an illegal demolition and the application to knock the buildings down was passed by the planners.

The site has always been in the centre of Armagh's urban infrastructure for instance the old prison and sessions house stood here from the early 1600's.
