Gingerbread Dough
Gingerbread dough is made in a saucepan on a hob so be sure and that you can
reach it comfortably and safely. This dough can be used with cutters to make
both gingerbread people and little biscuits.
YOU WILL NEED
· 100g brown sugar
· 150g Golden syrup
· 5ml cinnamon
· 5ml ground ginger
· 5ml ground cloves
· 150g butter
· 1 egg
· 5ml bicarbonate of soda
· 5ml cold water
· 450g plain flour
· large heavy bottomed saucepan
· wooden spoon
· 2 tablespoons
· teaspoon
· fork
· 2 small cups
· rolling pin
· baking tray greased
· wire rack
- Set the oven to 180°
C/Gas 4.
- Put the sugar, syrup and spices into a saucepan and stir gently over a low
heat until the butter has melted.
- Turn off the heat and remove the saucepan from the heater while you are
waiting for the mixture to cool down beat the egg in a cup or mixing bowl
with a fork. Dissolve the bicarbonate of soda in the water in another cup.
- Add the egg to the saucepan and stir..
- Stir the bicarbonate of soda into the mixture.
- Add the flour one spoon at a time, mix well with a wooden spoon, you should
end up with a glossy dough.
- Put the dough in the fridge for 20 minutes
- Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to 3mm thick then cut out
using a shape
- Place on a baking tray and cook for 8-10 minutes.
- Cool on a wire rack
