Bassett's guide to County Armagh was published in 1888 and provides an excellent beginners guide to the County. As well as a directory listing Gentry, Clergy professionals and hundreds of farmers from the area, the book gave prospective visitors all the information they could possibly need on all aspects of Armagh life, from the archery club to the Lunatic Asylum. Below are links to the section of the book dealing with Armagh city, as can be seen from their titles there is quite a variety of topics. For the genealogists there are also many names in the text that may useful. The sections dealing with general history should be read with caution I noticed a couple of errors so tread warily. The contemporary info' though should be considered reliable and is a valuable guide to Armagh in the 1880's. In each section the page numbers from the book itself break up the text.
