MESSRS. WM. H. ADDEY & CO.

ESSRS. WM. H. ADDEY & CO. 's Weaving Factory and Beetling Works, at Allistragh, are situated at a distance of two miles from the Armagh Railway Station. They communicate with the direct road to Moy, a border town in Tyrone, celebrated for horse fairs, and are within two miles of the Ulster Canal, at Blackwatertown.
Messrs. Wm. H. Addey & Co. are manufacturers and finishers of coarse linens, known to the trade as "beetlers," and sell all their output in Manchester, where they are represented by Messrs. Jacob Addey & Co., Marsden Square.
About 36 years ago the father of Mr. Wm. H. Addey was attracted by Allistragh, and looked upon it as a most favourable site for founding an important industry. The river seen in the illustration is the Callan. Upon its banks many enterprises have been initiated, and are now deeply rooted. This fact, coupled with others equally encouraging, induced Mr. Addey to acquire premises, consisting of sixty acres, as a basis for operations. Some of the houses now used for beetling purposes, forty years ago, were owned by Mr. W. C. McBride, a corn merchant. More than sixty years previous to that time Mr. McBride 's father had a bleach green here.
Mr. Addey remodelled the corn mill, and put in beetling engines. The weaving factory, which also occupies the site of a corn mill, was built by Messrs. Wm H. Addey &Co. in 1882. It contains power looms, having the latest improvements, driven by water and steam. Two turbines, with a 40-horse engine as an auxiliary, supply the necessary driving force. A portion of the work-people live in cottages belonging to the property, and the remainder have houses of their own, and small farms in the neighbourhood.
Mr. Wm. H. Addey 's private residence, approached through a beautifully planted avenue, stands on the side of a gentle acclivity, commanding a charming prospect.
